I chose a model that has reinforced steel construction, and a pad that is thicker than usual because of my specific requirements. I broke my tail bone a few years back, so sitting on a hard floor is not an option if I want to be comfortable, since I am not into pain. Some of the flat utility benches I tried out were not any better than the floor, with minimal padding that did not cushion. This was the main reason I was looking to replace mine, so what sense would it make to replace an uncomfortable one with one that was exactly like it. I paid a little more for the extra comfort, but to me it was well worth the few extra dollars to have a higher comfort during my fitness routine. My flat utility bench has even been used in a few unconventional methods, like a potting stand in a pinch, or even a step stool when I have been desperate. There are many uses besides the traditional ones for flat utility benches, if you use your creativity and imagination. The workout I get when I use my bench is unbelievable, and my abs have never been flatter or tighter. With all of the benefits, not owning and using a flat utility bench would be a big mistake.
